How to charge a 1 Farad Capacitor?

I lost the little light bulb resistor it came with. I bought a 1 watt resistor from radio shack and it did not work. My buddy told me to buy a 1156 bulb from Auto Zone so i did and i cant figure out how to use it to charge the capacitor. I have tried everything. please help!! if you have any ideas plz include a link to a picture so i know what to buy, Thanks!
